Understanding How Well You Hear Speech
Speech Audiometry is a hearing test that evaluates how clearly you can hear and understand spoken words. While a Pure Tone Audiometry test measures your ability to detect sounds, Speech Audiometry assesses how well your brain recognizes and interprets speech.
This test provides valuable information for diagnosing hearing difficulties and selecting the most suitable hearing solution.
When is Speech Audiometry Recommended?
Your audiologist may recommend this test if you:
- Have difficulty understanding conversations
- Can hear sounds but struggle to recognize words
- Find it hard to hear in noisy environments
- Are being evaluated for hearing aids
- Experience hearing loss or communication difficulties
How is the Test Performed?
During the test:
- You’ll wear headphones or listen through speakers.
- You’ll hear a series of words at different volume levels.
- You’ll be asked to repeat the words you hear.
- The test is simple, painless, and usually takes 15–20 minutes.
