Pure Tone Audiometry (PTA) is the most common hearing test used to check how well you hear different sounds and tones. It helps our audiologists identify the type and degree of hearing loss and recommend the right treatment.
The test is safe, painless, and suitable for both adults and children who can respond to instructions.
When Do You Need a PTA Test?
You may benefit from a hearing test if you:
- Have difficulty hearing conversations
- Ask people to repeat themselves often
- Need to increase the TV or phone volume
- Experience ringing in the ears (Tinnitus)
- Feel your hearing has gradually reduced
- Are exposed to loud noise regularly
How is the Test Done?
During the test:
- You’ll wear headphones in a quiet room.
- Different tones will be played at various volumes.
- You’ll indicate whenever you hear a sound.
- The test usually takes 20–30 minutes.
The results are displayed on an audiogram, which helps us understand your hearing ability.
